Top 5 Red Lip Picks

First of all, let's start with a confession: I am a lip product obsessive. I love lipstick, however my lip-love is not only restrained to lipstick. I love lip products, lip stain, lipgloss, lip liner, lip crayons, lip balm... everything. My favourite colour of lip anything, however, has to be red. If I had to choose a signature look that I had to wear everyday it would be red lip and liquid liner, hands down. Red lipstick is fabulous, whenever I apply it I feel instantly more confident and believe it or not, I think it looks great on everyone, if you have the right product. There are many factors which can influence how a red lipstick sits on you personally, first of all, shade is so important, there are orangey reds, there are blue reds and there are 'true reds' the most important thing to do when finding your perfect red is try different shades and colours out! Secondly, texture is very important, is it a bold matte lip? Is it a stain? Is it a shiny gloss? Again, I cannot stress enough how important it is to try a few before you give up on red lips entirely! I have tried a fair few in my time and have built up a small collection, here are 5 of my top picks, all different shades, all different textures, there's bound to be one to suit you!

1. YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain Lip in 09 Red Flash

This was my first ever high-end lipstick purchase and it's still one of my favourites. It's a love it or hate it product with this lipstick, it has a very slick texture when applied and some people don't like the feel of it. After two coats it builds up to a bold red with a shiny finish that will not budge.

2. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in 028 Cherry Blossom

This lipstick is more of an everyday red, it's slightly more cherry toned, so quite easy to wear and goes with most skin tones. It's very comfortable on the lips and it doesn't feel any different to a lip balm.

 3. Lipstick Queen- Medieval

The nicest and most moisturising lipstick of them all, it gives a very sheer finish with just a hint of colour that makes it perfect for everyone to wear. It gives a very subtle hue to the lips with a glossy texture and no full on in your face red colour.

4. Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Intense in 42 Satin Vermillion Red

This is a more on the orangey end of the red spectrum, it's a slightly more matte formula than the YSL lips stain, but still has a bit of shine that lasts really well on the lips. As you might be able to tell, I generally go for more moisturising products that aren't completely matte, as I have issues with my skin and lips being dry anyway and matte lipsticks tend to highlight this and can dry them out more.

5. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in 240 Fatal Apple

The only gloss in my red lip collection, this lip product gives a subtle hint of red shine for either layering on top of red lipsticks or for a more casual red lip. It's very silky and soft without the sticky feeling a lot of lipglosses can leave on the lips (or hair).

As always, thanks for reading.
