Inspiration: Marilyn Monroe
As this August is the 50th Anniversary of Marilyn's death, I thought I would put together a post about her, and why she inspires me.
I am fascinated with her, as I think many people are, we were fascinated with her when she was alive, and I believe we are even more so after her mysterious death. Marilyn was an actress, singer and model, and over time developed to become a major icon. Although she had a lot of problems as a child and growing up, and often into her adult life, she always looked impeccable and, for me, she is a major influence upon my fashion choices. I respect her greatly not only for her fashion style but for her curvy figure, I think it's important for women to show off their curves, and not aspire to be the stick thin skinny girls we see in the media today.
What I love most about Marilyn was her perfectionists style, and what I mean by that is, you've never seen a picture of Marilyn looking rough in a pair of worn jeans and a scruffy t-shirt, with smudged make-up. She was always impeccably dressed, and looking polished and glossy. Indeed, she had to be, because that was the message she was sending to the world about herself. Even when she was having a bad day, she'd throw on her scarf and her big sunglasses and would look as classy as ever. Another thing that I love so much about her is the style of clothing from this era, the over the knee skirts and dresses, with the all the lace and the wonderful accessories like gloves and scarves and sunglasses. I love the fact she played with colour, from stripy dresses to a soft blue feminine skirt, although in my opinion I think she rocked a red dress and red always looked fabulous on her with her red lips and bleach blonde hair. I think she was amazing and I always try to look polished and classy, just as she did.
